Career Explorations and the FEARS that Stop you

Welcome to Career Explorations. Have your FEARS stopped you from exploring your Career options? Would you like to make your current job less stressful? Can you imagine it with new eyes, and yes new thoughts?

Taking the time to rediscover your soul purpose, revisit your dreams, focus on your passion, and re value your life is a very important aspect of career explorations. This is also something many people don't consider or really grasp. Especially my generation.

I am choosing the word rediscover intentionally, because by taking the time, and giving yourself permission you will begin taking action. What happens though when life gets in the way? Before you know it you are working to make ends meet. You have no time for anything other than working 8 hrs a day, 40 hrs a week, and before you know it your life and your dreams are just a distant thought you once had. This is sad, and very true for most of us. Before we know it a part time job suddenly becomes a necessity. That perfect family we had always dreamed of suddenly becomes this family of strangers. Everyone doing their own thing, and gone are the dreams and desires of what we once felt in our hearts. Have you ever felt like this? Do you feel like this now? Anything is possible. I know this one so well. I was stuck in just this place. It took an injury for me to see the way out, and it doesn't have to be so difficult unless like I, you refuse to listen to your heart. You are creating your life right now. Think back to your days in high school, and remember what you wanted out of life back then. What were you wanting to do after graduation? How did you see yourself in 10 or 20 years? What were your Dreams? Have you accomplished them? What are your road blocks?

How do you feel about this now? Who do you hold responsible and most importantly what do you believe you can do about this now?

How do you see your experiences? As terrible misfortunes or opportunities for Growth?

As you remember your childhood dreams: have you accomplished them? Can you see yourself fulfilling any of those dreams? What's holding you back? Money, family, commitments? Could these be excuses rather than truths?

Yes, this comes from personal experience and it's not about being easy, it's about having a plan, a focus, and goals.

This Feels So Right!

It is important every once in a while to stop and take stock of y our life. To re-evvaluate what's important and what's not. Think back to the excitement and the feelings you had when something felt right!

Those feelings are still there. They may have gotten covered up by other situations and forks along the road, yet they are there if you are willing to face them, and investigate. If you are willing to look at your current situation differently than you might be right now.

Working through Fear could lead you to your Life purpose, your passion and much more. Doing this for all the right reasons, is where it counts the most.

No you just don't get up and quit your job, and forfeit your responsibilities as a parent or caregiver. You take tiny steps by doing your own work in "Being the Change you want to see", and begin "Minding Your own Business".

I would also ask you to remember: It doesn't matter how long it takes you to rediscover your dreams . The experiences and lessons you've picked up along your journey are exactly the way it's meant to be and they add and enrich your experience. Experiential learning has it's place when it comes to career exploration.

Let the experiences of your life, your hobbies and what you enjoy doing lead you to your reality, because if you can Imagine It... you can Create It

What about the FEAR?

Yes, you will find many excuses as to why you could never do this for yourself, and you will get exactly what you put into it, this is true.

So what about the FEAR? Fear is an important part of career explorations because it is a way for you to give yourself the opportunity to face your fears. An opportunity for you to use your desires to help you face your fears and work through them. Yes your desires will give you the courage. For all the right reasons. Can you think of a better way to work through your fear and finally step through one layer at a time?

Knowing your fears; recognizing the difference and working through them with knowledge, new skills and lots of practice. Most of all Loving yourself unconditionallycan turn your dreams to reality.

You can do this with a concrete plan, and a clarity that can only come from you, every minute of your life. This is the best gift you can give yourself, and more importantly those around you. Your family.

A clear course of action begins by taking the steps to look at where you are now,and taking the time to dream about what your life and job would look like if you had the opportunity to do it again. Listen to what you keep saying to yourself daily, and do your best to change your thoughts around when ever you hear yourself complaining.

One of my revelations came to me, while I was attending a 3 week career explorations program.

It was my personality, and never was my personality covered as extensively as it was in this program. And never had I looked at my personality as a positive aspect of me. I had always thought of my personality as my weakness. Not anymore!

One of the several tests we used was The Meyers Briggs personality test.

I was very skeptical. I normally don't believe in this type of testing and I looked at it as giving the employers too much information. This was my number one reason. I didn't know too much about it in the first place, and I went along because it was one of the requirements. I reluctantly handed my test back to the instructor who was scoring them.During the next few days we took a few more personality tests, and so by the time I received my results from the Meyers Briggs test I had already established a pretty good idea of what my personality type was.

I was shocked when I received my results from the Meyers Briggs Test. They were right on with the conclusions I had already reached on my own.

When I compared the results to the type of work I would excel in, I was even more shocked. I was stunned, excited and now I understood why I felt the way I did towards most of my previous jobs.

For me, knowing what my personality type was, allowed me to focus and use my personality towards a more focused directed career explorations plan that works for me rather than against me. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Myers Brigg's Testing is one way to help you in your career explorations and your life! It can put you on a path and lead you down a different road. There are also many more other resources to assist you and only you will know if this is enough.

Oh one last thing. This test is solely for you, not your employer, yet you will find that many employers use them.

Meyers Briggs can be beneficial to you, because it may help you see why you can't stand your current job, and it makes you see how your job may not fit your personality.
