When I was first introduced to the work of Byron Katie
I had never heard of Byron Katie or her work.At first it can seem very difficult to understand her concept. How could my thoughts be creating the emotions I was feeling about certain events in my life? How could my thoughts be creating my reality? And, more so, how could changing my thoughts change the outcome?
As difficult as it was for me to digest her explanations, I continued to read her books. I also began listening to her audio tapes. It took me a good month of constantly listening to the tapes while I was doing housework or exercising before I was able to start remember to apply her theory.
I began to consciously question my thoughts, the ones that were causing me stress. You might be thinking what thoughts do I work on? This one becomes pretty easy to figure out.
Look at the ones that are creating negative reactions or hits for you. (This, at first is not an easy thing to do). When you are in the middle of a stressful situation it is the last thing on your mind. You are reacting using your programing, dealing with things the way you are used to dealing with them. It becomes so easy to fall back into the same pattern
Unless ......You Make a Conscious Decision to do this.
At first, it's the only way you can begin to see it in action for yourself. Luckily for me I had the support of others who had been using this method longer than I had been.
I would call them up in the middle of a crisis, and they would either begin to ask me the four questions and before I realized it we were working on the turnaround, or they would just come out and ask me "Did you Byron Katie it?"
My initial thoughts? The ones I didn't voice to them at that time were
"What the (BLEEP) does Inquiry Have to do with my problem right here and NOW!!!!!!"Amazingly enough........It had a lot to do with my current situations!
